Caring for your Flowers and plants from The Rosebud is an essential requirement to help make your gift last longer. Follow the simple guide below to extend the longevity and freshness of your gift.
Flowers:-
Remove any foliage which would be below the water line. Cut 1 to 3cm off the stems with a clean, sharp knife, secateurs or scissors at an angle and place into a clean container or vase with plenty of water. Please use the flower food sachet provided following the directions. Always top up or change with fresh water when levels are low and re-cut the stems. This all prevents the growth of bacteria in the water which can shorten the life of your flowers.
homemade flower food recipes—
- 1lt water, 2 tablespoons lemon juice, 1 tablespoons sugar, half teaspoon bleach. Change regularly .
- 1lt water, 2 tablespoons white vinegar, 2 tablespoons sugar. Change regularly.
Roses:-
As above but if roses wilt at the neck but are still firm to the touch, re-cut and plunge the stems into 2” of boiling hot water for 1 minute then place them back into a clean vase of fresh water.
Hand tied bouquets:-
As for flowers above, however, if delivered in a cello bag of water, pierce the film and drain the water over a sink before undoing the packaging. It is not necessary to untie your bouquet .
Arrangements in floral foam:-
Where flowers have been arranged in floral foam, there may be a secondary dish inside the container or basket that the foam is secured into. Add water/flower food straight into the foam every 2nd day or so as necessary.
Plastic free/biodegradable items:-
if you receive a plastic fee/biodegradable gift, it may have a glass/ceramic container. If so ,please handle with care . Reuse and/or recycle as appropriate.
General:-
Please avoid placing your flowers in direct sunlight, draughts or a heat source. Also keep away from ripening fruit as the ethylene produced can shorten the life of your flowers.

Caution: –
Some flowers, foliage and plants may be toxic or cause skin irritations. Keep out of reach from children and animals. Always wash your hands thoroughly after handling. Lilies can be especially harmful to cats. Glittered, dyed, painted products and lily stamens can stain so avoid contact with surfaces.
Plant Care
There are many varieties of plants out there and it can be difficult to know the care and attention each one needs. Plants come from all different climates all over the world so if you are able to replicate their own individual environment as close as you can then you are half way there.
Here are our general rules for the majority of house plants.
1. Location, location, location.
Bright but not direct sunlight. As a rule, the more thicker, rubberier, juicier the leaf- the brighter position it can handle, so for instance, cactus – bright sunny window ledge, yucca – 3- 6 ft away from a bright sunny window. The softer, finer, leafier the leaves- the more dappled shade, further away from the bright light. All plants need daylight.
2. To water or not to water.
If possible, always water from the bottom. We suggest every 1-4 weeks, depending on the type, size & variety of plant, and temperature of the room it is in. A good watering tip is , fill up you sink, basin or bath with approximately 3″ water. Sit your plants in this water and leave for around 1-3 hours. This will ensure the plant will only take up the water it needs. After this time drain away the excess water but leave the plants for another half hour or so drip dry before placing them back to their usual living position. Let most plants almost dry out between watering. During the winter, water less and less frequently as plants do slow their growing during this time.
3. Feeding, fertilising and forward potting.
Most new plants will not need any feeding, fertilising or re-potting in the first few months of your care. Please follow the packaging of you chosen plant food/fertiliser. The majority of plants only need re-potting or forward potting when it is either top-heavy and needs more stability or when there are lots of roots making their way out the holes at the bottom of the pot. This is a sign of the plant looking for more nutrients as it has used up the goodness in the soil it is in. Most plants just need the next pot size up. Spring is usually the best time as it is just starting its growing season but there is no right or wrong time in general.
4. Happy plants, happy people!
When purchasing a plant from us here at the Rosebud, we will give you as much information on each plant as we can and please feel free to ask any questions you like. Happy plants, happy plant parent, happy shopkeeper. 😁.
